In Karelia, a new visitor center “Belomorskie Petroglyphy” is being prepared for opening in the town of Zalavruga

The main construction works have been completed at the facility, and the territory is being improved. The work is underway to obtain the necessary documentation for the visitor center commissioning.

Belomorsk petroglyphs are recognized by the UNESCO as a heritage of humanity and are a serious point of attraction for both tourists and private investors. The new visitor center is another growth point both for the economy of the Belomorsky District and for whole Karelia. The concept for development of the archaeological complex “Belomorskie petroglyphy” has been approved by the Head of the Republic.

Today, modern tourist and related infrastructure is being created around the White Sea petroglyphs, which goal is to make the unique heritage accessible to the general public. At the same time, special attention is paid to the petroglyphs preservation and protection.

The main construction work has been completed. The building houses a museum, a conference hall, a small hotel, and a cafe. The final stage is the territory landscaping. There is a large parking lot for 67 cars and additional spaces for buses. After receiving the necessary documentation in such cases, the visitor center will begin its work. At least 75 jobs will be created here. The modern complex, the new road and the previously built bridge across the Kisly Pudas channel will all work for the economy of the Belomorsky District first of all and for development of the republic as a whole, said the Head of the Republic of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov.

The development activities for the infrastructure of the archaeological complex “Belomorskie petroglyphy” were implemented by the Government of the Republic with the support of the federal center. Construction was carried out within the framework of the individual program of social and economic development of Karelia. Let us recall that creation of the same object with infrastructure is also planned on the territory of the Onego petroglyphs.
